Growing Memories

April 11, 2018

When preparing for your vegetable garden; you may want to start by planting with seed. Once you determine what types of vegetables to plant, (such as: beans, carrots, tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, etc); then you will know what trays you will need.

If you are reusing trays that you may have purchased from prior years; wash them with soapy water with 1 part bleach so you kill any diseases that may have developed in the tray.

Soil mixes should be light and fluffy such as a soilless mix (contains, bark, peat moss, and perlite).

Take the soil and start filling the trays, do not pack the soil so tightly in the area as the seed you are planting will not grow due to suffocation. When done inserting the seed into the area; water by inserting water on the bottom of the tray. Label all of your trays of what you planted so by the end of May; you can transplant these into your vegetable garden and/or your raised beds that you will be utilizing for your garden.
